A
few years ago I visited Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee,
and enjoyed every minute of my tour of Elvis and Priscilla
Presley’s mansion and grounds. In fact, as I look at our
beautiful cover of Priscilla taken at Graceland, I have my
Pandora station set to Elvis tunes and am rocking and rolling along
as I type.
To say Priscilla Presley is all shook up about the world of the
Tennessee Walking Horse industry would be an understatement.
:KLOH (OYLV ORYHG WKH ÀDVK\ KLJK VWHSSLQJ EUHHG KH DQG 3ULVFLOOD
weren’t familiar with the practice of soring that takes place within the
world of the Tennessee Walkers.
When Priscilla discovered the cruelty behind soring, she
sprung into action. Read all about her journey from Graceland to
Washington, D.C. as she works diligently to help the breed that Elvis
loved so much.

horse people, we understand the show world, but that’s one thing the

Speaking of riding a horse, our “Passion For Polo” columnist,

traveler, and her adventures recently took her to Santa Barbara,
California, to play polo. She not only played, but was also part of

EHFDPH WKH ¿UVW ZRPDQ WR HYHU ZLQ )ROORZ .HUVWLH¶V DGYHQWXUHV

Instagram. I follow her on Instagram and love living vicariously
through her amazing experiences — from swimming horses in

leaves changing in our feature on the Appalachian Therapeutic
Riding Center, located at Bright’s Creek, in Mill Spring, North
Carolina. I live nearby and can attest to the fact that the leaves
are always impressive this time of year. Two young riders who are
also impressive, and whose lives have changed recently, are Texas
brothers Lucas and Wilton Porter. The siblings were gold medal
ZLQQHUV WKLV VXPPHU LQ .HQWXFN\ DW WKH )(, 1RUWK $PHULFDQ <RXQJ
Rider Championships and I think you’ll be inspired by their ride into
history.
