Polo Team Representing the U.S. Displays Strong Performance Against England in St. Regis International Cup
Wellington, Fla. (May 21, 2012) – There was plenty of action in Saturday’s 5th annual St. Regis International Cup at Great Britain’s Cowdray Park Polo Club as England defeated the U.S. 11-10.5 in a highly competitive, international polo match that featured the two, evenly-talented teams battling it out and trading leads throughout the contest. Coming down to the wire, England defended a 60-yard penalty attempt, in the closing seconds, to secure the victory for the host team.
Despite the loss, Nick Roldan’s performance on the field earned him Most Valuable Player honors in the hard-fought battle displayed by both squads, and the polo bravado of both teams received heavy praise from the crowd. In addition to the memorable game, the event held special significance as it was the first field match between England and the U.S. on U.K. soil since the Westchester Cup 15 years ago.
“Our U.S. polo team played a tremendous match against a talented English team, fighting until the very end.” said Peter Rizzo, CEO of the U.S. Polo Association. “Although the final outcome was not in our favor, our team displayed passion and talent, playing with pride and honor for their country. We all are extremely proud of the performance.”
