Darren Chiacchia, a 2004 Olympic eventing bronze medalist, 2003 Pan American Games individual gold medalist and a winner of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, is continuing his steady recovery from the near-fatal fungal meningitis he contracted last October. Darren won three blue ribbons at the White Fences Dressage Show in Wellington, Florida in February aboard his own black stallion, Ballzauber. Now head trainer for The YARD Sport Horse Center, also in Wellington, he is training a solid group of both young and advanced eventing, dressage and show jumping horses. Chuck and Anne Koch’s Mr. Bockman has been sold to London Paralympian Dale Dedrick as a World Equestrian Games U.S. team prospect. The 13-year-old Westphalian gelding (Arpeggio - Hauptstutbuch Amore) was imported from Europe and has been in training with Grand Prix dressage rider Chrissa Hoffman in Ocala, Florida. The 2013 World Dressage Masters in West Palm Beach brought some drama and disappointment for several competitors as well as for the spectators who missed seeing some of their favorite horse and rider combos. Canadian Olympian David Marcus is back in Wellington for the winter season. Having dominated CDI-W Dressage at Devon in September by winning three grand prix classes, Marcus sat atop the North American World Cup League standings as the new year opened with Chrevi’s Capital (pictured), a 12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding. In addition to their full show schedule, the pair was invited to represent Canada at the prestigious World Dressage Masters held at the Jim Brandon Center in January. Based at Tuny Page’s Stillpoint Farm for the season, the 32-year-old coach and trainer will campaign both Chrevi’s Capital and Don Kontes at the grand prix level while continuing the development of the exciting seven-year-old mare, Betrina, all owned by Deborah Miculinic. Dr. Cesar Parra struck gold in Colombia during a very exciting and successful trip in which he coached the dressage team from Liga de Bogota (the Bogota Region) to win the team gold in the Colombian National Games at Country Club Guaymaral in Bogota. Cesar, who is based in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and Jupiter, Florida, was one of Colombia’s top international riders before becoming a US citizen in 2008. Congratulations to Olympic rider Adrienne Lyle and her star mount Wizard. Adrienne was the only American rider ranked in the Dressage FEI World Individual Dressage Rankings released at the end of October. Adelinde Cornelissen, of The Netherlands, topped the list followed by British rider Charlotte Dujardin. Adrienne cracked the top 50 with a ranking of #43 – go Adrienne and Wizard. Go USA! PR Pony Junkie, Johnny Robb, acquired two more little horses, Barnes & Noble. Johnny said she purchased them as a tribute to rider/author, Tami Hoag and next year when Tami’s new murder mystery comes out she plans on driving Barnes & Noble to Barnes & Noble for Tami’s book signing. Ah how we justify our passions! But we have to agree these two are irresistibly cute!

Dressage rider Aileen Daly is known for dancing on horseback; but now the Aiken, South Carolina rider is going to be dancing with the stars! Aileen will take part in Dancing with the Aiken Stars on November 15th. Her dance partner will be Aiken pediatrician Dr. John Tiffany.  Lily Zilo and trainer Endel Ots took a trip to Europe and found Lily an exciting new horse. Aileen Daly is staying busy with a gorgeous new grand prix dressage horse and a 70 pound puppy! Aileen is pleased to announce that she bought Heather Beachem’s grand prix horse Windsong so she could learn the grand prix movements. Aileen is also thrilled with her new puppy. Conrad Schumacher will be in Massachusetts in the fall for Training Sessions at The Ashby Stock Farm. Nancy Later Lavoie and her husband Matthew Lavoie will be sponsoring the clinic October 4-7. The clinic will be open to all riders on Thursday and Friday and for Region 8 Jr/YR’s on Saturday and Sunday, with other demonstrations and lectures available on the weekend. Not many dry eyes in the house when Olympian Steffen Peters took his final ride on Ravel at the 2012 Olympics. It was especially touching when Steffen leaned down and whispered in the great horse’s ear. Ravel, owned by Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang, retired following the London Games. Fun in Olympic proportions! A few weeks prior to the Olympics, ShowChic hosted an Olympic predictions night with Olympic dressage riders Bent Jensen and Lars Petersen. Bent and Lars made predictions on which horse and rider combinations might win individual medals, as well as which countries might take home the team medals and shared their own Olympic experiences.
