Remember Duke???

Duke on his way to Florida

Duke on his way to Florida

Duke became a local celebrity when he made the trip with the Tri County Humane Society Rescue Team from Oklahoma to Boca Raton. After one week in quarantine, his new family fell in love with him when they saw his story on the news and brought him home yesterday!!!!!

Duke's first TV appearance when his family fell in love.

Duke’s first TV appearance when his family fell in love.

To our surprise we had a wonderful email from them already this morning stating this:

“He has adjusted well and is already sleeping on the couches and on his own custom dog bed because he likes the floor. He also likes toll house crackers I’ve found out. He slept the whole night without waking up. This is him on one of the couches.”

We were able to give Duke his new life because of all of you. If you are looking to adopt, please come by our shelter this weekend. There are many many more animals looking for their forever homes and even some that traveled all the way from Oklahoma to do so.

Duke today! Finally in his forever home!!!

If you are unable to adopt at this moment, please consider making a donation to our shelter.

Help us help the animals right here in Florida and beyond. Tri County Humane Society believes in saving lives and we will go anywhere to help those in need.

Dogs in need of loving homes!!

June 05, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

Over the past 2 days dog receiving has been inundated with dogs coming in. It has been horrific, people lined up outside of the room, waiting to surrender our 4-legged-friends.

Euthanasia for “space” (especially with larger dogs) has inevitably increased due to this disturbing spike.

Please do what you can by means of networking our pets.

Featuring a few in immediate need of rescue:

Remember, for the entire month of June dogs weighing over 40 lbs. or 5 yrs. + have adoption fees waived… $27 tag fee only! Out of Dade? –Then your adoption for these dogs would be completely FREE.

And, if these dogs don’t seem like ‘long-timers’ to you because of their due out dates then… you just haven’t spent much time around MDAS in peak summer months.

Animals in need of loving homes!

June 04, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

George is a miniature donkey stallion, 14-15 years old. He does need to be gelded but is gentle when handled. He is a little cautious of people although that goes away when handled more frequently.

George the donkey! Isn't he cute!?

The goat, Fiona, is a very gentle animal and is currently treated like a beloved dog. She loves attention, rides in the car, sleeps on a dog bed on the porch and waits for her master to come out. Due to an earlier accident one of her horns is cut off at the nub. She is barely a year old.

Fiona the goat!

Paco is a small Paso Fino, gelding about 14 years old. He would be suitable for a child or a smaller adult. I have ridden him and felt a little large on him. He is very gentle and has that nice, smooth Paso gait.

His buddy, Chip is a small 18 year old gelding Tennessee Walker.

Both horses are good on the trails, easy to handle and easy keepers. Tenn Walker, Miniature Donkey: Stallion that should probably be gelded.

A pet Goat who is like a dog. Well trained, rides in the car, sleeps on the porch in a dog bed. etc.

They all live on a farm in Montmorenci. Their owner works 12 hours days, 6 days a week and can no longer give them the attention they need.

Dog of the Day – Fred

May 15, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

Fred is a real love bug and just happy being loyal to his master. He’s a big Lab mix, and would best be suited in a home where he can interact and play with his human companions. Fred is an older gentleman who is easygoing and chilled out – no puppy problems with him!  He is so ready for his new adoptive family – maybe yours?

Billie is a happy, fun-loving little guy who really wants a family of his own to love and play with. He’s not too big and not too small – just the perfect size. He loves toys, giving kisses, and flopping into laps – he’s waiting for you! I am looking for that special someone to adopt me and give me a forever home. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out the adoption form online or contact Big Dog Ranch Rescue (561) 309-3311 or email: adoptions@bdrr.org.

Mutt of the Month – Peeta

March 15, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

Meet Peeta! His brother, Gale has already been adopted. Unfortunately Peeta does not make a great first impression. He’s tired of seeing people walking past his kennel and wants to get out and play. Once he’s out, he walks beautifully on a leash and is a perfect companion. Give this handsome boy a chance. Adoption fee is $75 including neuter, microchip, UTD vaccinations, and appropriate testing. Find out more at LetLoveLive.org.

SAVE ME AND NAME ME!

March 05, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

unnamed
I was rescued today by Big Dog Ranch Rescue, also known as Weimaraner Rescue Florida. I am just a 9 week old little girl. The people who bought me to be their cute puppy accidentally ran over me with a golf cart. My hip was broken in two places and so was my leg. My doggie parents did not think I was worth the $3,500 it was going to cost for the orthopedic doctor to fix what they did to me. So they said to put me to sleep!!!!

Lucky for me, Big Dog Ranch Rescue stepped in and drove 9 hours to save me. But they need their friends to help them raise the money to save my leg. Please help me. I have a lot of life ahead of me and I need all four of my legs. I also need a name, so whoever donates the most gets to name me!

Thanks, I will forever grateful…

OK Dogsters…let’s get this money raised in the next 48 hours!

Dog of the Day – Missy

February 25, 2013 By: janwest Category: General

missymissyMy name is Missy. I was rescued from Louisiana during the flooding last month. I was one of 40 dogs spared from the gas chamber thanks to Big Dog Ranch. I am an 11 month old Lab & Border Collie mix. I love to snuggle and play with my 4 year old foster brother. I am making a lot of progress walking on a leash. I am mostly house trained except for the occasional excited piddle. I wasn’t treated so nice in the past and am a little apprehensive until I get to know you. My foster mom says the coolest thing about me is my smile. When you talk real sweet to me it makes me so happy and I just can’t help but break into a big grin. Won’t you please consider meeting me? To know me is to love me!  For more information or if you would like to meet Missy, contact foster, Dana Prowell at 561-351-6903 or dana.prowell@bdrr.org
